President’s Message

It’s easy to be president of an organization like Friends of Wasatch Mountain Sate Park.  When you have a board like I do, a great Park Staff and generous members, it is easy to accomplish a lot.  We have already had several requests from the Park for projects for 2010.  The first will be the long awaited dredging of the Visitor Center Pond. Friends will make a donation to pay for the rental of the large equipment necessary for dredging.  We are planning on building a modest fish cleaning station for all the junior anglers who wish to keep what they catch. We hope to add to the State Park trail system with a simple trail starting at the State Park campground that will connect to Snake Creek Road and Huber Grove Trail.  The trail will does not need to be as ambitious as Huber Grove Trail and very affordable for FOW to help finance with a matching state grant. It will be wonderful for the campground visitors to reach the Visitor Center and the pond without getting in their vehicles. In addition, FOW will assist with the cost of an additional educational display at the Visitor Center. This year we will also see the realization of improvements that we pledged in 2009 for the Huber Grove picnic area with permanent cabanas.  All these projects are great examples of staying true to our mission statement.

Our membership continues to grow.  Many of our newest members are new residents looking for a local group to join that cares about and utilizes the wonderful 23,000 acres of Wasatch Mountain State Park.
